Fringe Young Performers Group

We’re excited to announce that Edinburgh Festival Fringe is partnering with Canongate Youth to give young people the chance to create and perform an original live music set as part of this year’s Fringe Community Stage programme.

This year, Canongate Youth and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe aim to give young people the opportunity to work with a professional artist and create an original performance together. Over eight weeks, participants will meet weekly to develop ideas, build confidence, learn new creative skills, and shape a performance that reflects their own interests and experiences.

At the heart of the project is youth voice and creativity. The performance is shaped by the ideas and talents of the young people involved, with past projects exploring everything from spoken word and puppetry to cabaret and drag.

This year, Canongate Youth’s group will focus on music. Led by Maria, a former Creative Hub music tutors, young people will work together across eight weeks to develop, rehearse, and perform their own original music set.

The project begins on 3rd July and is open to young people in S1–S6 who can commit to the full eight-week programme.

The group will then take to the Fringe Community Stage on 28th August, performing live in front of an audience as part of the Fringe celebrations, an exciting opportunity to build confidence, develop musical skills, and showcase their talents.

There is still time to get involved!
